CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE III CAMPAIGN

Activision has stepped in to address the high expectations of Call of Duty fans concerning the massive file size with the launch of Modern Warfare 3 this month.

With the early access release of Modern Warfare 3 campaign now live, players have noticed a staggering 234.9GB Call of Duty installation on their PlayStation 5. This installation appears to encompass Modern Warfare 2, now known as Call of Duty HQ, as well as Modern Warfare 3’s campaign. It does not include other unreleased components of Modern Warfare 3, such as Multiplayer and Zombies.

Call of Duty players are accustomed to dealing with substantial file sizes for the shooter series, but it seems that Modern Warfare 3's unique launch has added to the load.

Activision has explained the situation, acknowledging that the file sizes “are larger than last year.”
This is due to the increased amount of content available on day one, including open world Zombies, support for item carry forward from Modern Warfare 2, as well as map files for the current Call of Duty: Warzone. (Note: as part of our ongoing optimisation efforts, your final installation size will actually be smaller than the combined previous Call of Duty experiences).

Activision has pointed out that players can reduce the installation size by going to the manage files section of the COD HQ launcher menu. From there, you can uninstall specific content you’re not using. Activision has mentioned that they will provide more information about the launch in the coming days.

The Modern Warfare 3 campaign was developed by Sledgehammer Games in partnership with Infinity Ward and serves as a direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. It comprises 15 missions, each of which rewards players with items that can be utilized in Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone.”

Modern Warfare 3 will officially release on November 10th. This marks the first Call of Duty game to launch after Microsoft’s massive $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, it’s important to note that it may not become available on Game Pass until 2024.
