Wappingers Falls explosion causes building collapse

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Many were harmed Thursday evening when a gas blast harmed a four-unit apartment complex on Block Column in the town.

A portion of the structure was imploded by the blast.

No less than two casualties have been situated in the rubble up to this point, and rescuers expect more may be inside. Firemen on the scene have mentioned numerous helicopters to fly the harmed to clinics.

Teams of first responders trained to rescue people from collapses have been deployed to the scene.

Dutchess County Emergency Management is asking people to avoid the area of Main Street, Mesier Park, Mill Street and High Street while firefighters and other emergency responders are working there. East and West Main streets are currently closed between South and Delavergne avenues.

People who live nearby felt their homes shake when the explosion happened.
